Revenge Recap: Episode 13 "Commitment" (01/18/2012)

Taste the commitment Revenge enthusiasts. Emily Thorne has been disposing those that have done her wrong all season long all the while setting her ways to one day become a Grayson. Well, in tonight's "Commitment" episode she's gotten her wish and then some. Marriage is about love and trust and loyalty. Who knew that it could be oh so captivating when used as a vengeful act? How could we thoroughly welcome such an action when Daniel's character has grown on all of us since day one? It must be for that guiltless satisfaction when she marks the spot on the next photograph. Daniel has become a favorite, but perhaps not even he can escape from becoming a road block in her plan. Whether she loves him or not, there's a vengeful path already set in motion and maybe Emily will finally begin to realize that she might be getting way over her head.

Where We Left Off

Emily is blankly staring at an old video of his father detailing on how Victoria visited him only twice and the one time she was joined by baby Charlotte. Nolan is there listening too and questions what Emily will do next. A possible half-sister? No worries. No emotion with such a goal in mind. Emily isn't even sure that David was told the truth about the matter because he never even mentioned about Charlotte in the infinity box. So what's the next step? Someone needs to become the scapegoat and that scapegoat's name is Amanda Clarke.

Time To Get Rid Of Amanda Clarke

Emily sure is sneaky. She pins the fire from "Infamy" on Victoria and tells Amanda that she should get out of town before Victoria does something worse to her. After all, she hates Amanda because she believes she's David Clarke's daughter. She dismisses the worry but Emily continues her scheming. She takes the rest of the tapes she stole and places them in Amanda's bag that just so happens to be at Jack's. The blackmailing is set but Jack catches her before she leaves. Uh-oh. He doesn't think anything of it but the last tape left behind in the end could eventually make Emily a suspect. There's a possibility Jack could figure out what's going on. Confused? You should be. Read on.

Charlotte Is Definitely Not Conrad's

Let's try to clear that up. Someone slips a tape to Conrad in an anonymous letter and it shows David confessing about Charlotte possibly being his. Conrad takes a piece of Charlotte's hair and the DNA clearly doesn't match. Now, Victoria has two choices. Reveal to the public that Charlotte's father is a monster or that Victoria had an affair with a terrorist. Victoria later tells Daniel that David Clarke is his sister's real father. She can't bring herself to tell him anymore and he feels terrible for her in a very unclear scene. What, does she think she was raped by him? Yes.

Daniel And The Proposal

We've seen the promo pictures so we knew a proposal was on the way. The lightening throughout the episode leading up to it was such an anticipation killer! He brings Emily to the boat where she first 'accidently' spilled a drink on him and proposes. She says yes yet looks upset. Happy tears? She texts Ashley and she spreads the happy news, even though she's not thrilled with her own life, to Nolan at the bar and Jack overhears. Meanwhile Daniel and Emily head back to tell Victoria and she only kisses him congratulations. Subtle. So what would a seemingly happy bride-to-be do right after? Emily just goes home by herself clearly thinking about what just happened. She gets a visit from Charlotte though who's looking for Daniel. Conrad just kicked her out (without telling her why) and Charlotte spots the engagement ring. "You don't know how badly I've always wanted a sister." Well played, Mike Kelley. Well played.

Emily Becomes Vulnerable After The Most Intertwined, Get Focused, Storyline

It is so unbelievably addicting that it's worth an instant replay. Victoria invites Amanda over for tea because she thinks she burned down the home. She ultimately drives her out because of her threatening comments and reveals that she doesn't think Amanda is really David's daughter. She exits but leaves back a spoon with DNA. She also eats strawberries, which she was allergic to back in the day, so that could definitely come into play later on. It's possibe that Emily declines eating one in front of Victoria in an upcoming episode and blows her own cover. Anyway, the lawyer takes the spoon for testing but later tells Victoria that it matches and she definitely has some of Charlotte's blood. Um, what? A flashback then shows Emily and the lawyer once again when she first got out of juvie. He may have stated that the Grayson's didn't get to him at first but the original footage was cut short. Now we see that David got to him and he's been helping Emily all along. Victoria dismisses him assuming that he's lying. Fantastic. Unfortunately, none of this helps Jack from getting beat up.

Victoria hires someone to find the tapes at the bar. He hits on Amanda but is later found by Jack in his room scooping them up. The guy viciously attacks Jack (don't even get me started) and leaves him to be found by Nolan and Amanda. Nolan tells Emily and is clearly peeved about her not so thought out plans to blackmail Amanda. "I've got Jack's blood all over my jacket but you've got blood all over your hands." He sees the ring but Emily later tells him that she's calling off the engagement. Before doing so, she goes to Amanda and finally reveals why she really came back to the Hamptons. Victoria is definitely coming after Amanda and she leaves a note behind for Jack before leaving town. Jack awakes to Declan very confused on why she just up and left. But, he won't be confused for long. A scan to the floor underneath his bed reveals a David Clarke testimony tape left behind. There will be no living with us diehards for the next few weeks. Once found, this has to help Jack realize who Emily really is. Right? It just HAS to.

But Then Gets Pissed

Daniel tells Emily that the "monster that used to live in your house" forced himself on Victoria and that's why she had Charlotte. Well, Daniel. Looks like you'll get a bride after all. Emily quickly changes her ways and chimes in that she would like to set their wedding date for June. No way is she backing down now after that comment. Would she like to become a part of his crazy family? Of course. As long as that means that she can destroy them along the way.

SumOlogy: Emily may get side stepped, but don't ever piss her off and talk badly about her father. Let the scheming continue.

Grade: 10/10

Leftovers

Victoria hisses at Emily in episode 15 (the engagement party) asking where Daniel is. Does she find out in the next two episodes who she really is?

Conrad paying Declan's tuition because he's helped Charlotte so much and so that he could be with her? Definitely fishy.

Let's get a little sappy here. It's hard not feeling bad for Conrad at least a little bit. He just found out Charlotte's not his.

Jack is NOT an idiot. Amanda, well, isn't the brightest. He will figure out everything on his own soon. Right?

Charlotte comes back upset and Victoria presumably believes that she found out about being David's. Not the case Victoria. Not the case.

"I've got something to do." "Yeah you do, as always. Oh, nice ring." - Emily and Nolan

"What about Jack?" "Jack is in love with a killer. We have to get rid of her." - Nolan and Emily

"So where in prattle do your feelings stand?" "My feelings are irrelevant." - Nolan and Emily about Jack

"Actually as I come to think of it, I don't that little girl is you." - Victoria to Amanda

"Sit down." "I don't take orders from you." - Victoria and Amanda

"There's no way that girl is David Clarke's daughter." - Victoria about Amanda

"If you'd let me, I'd like to spend the rest of my life making you as happy as you'd made me. Emily Thorne, will you marry me?" - Daniel
