It's poker night for gaming greats

Miniguns, boxing gloves, and a hyperkinetic rabbity thing. Just another night at the Inventory.

The adventuring gurus at Telltale Games have finally revealed the truth behind last week's mysterious teaser image. So why, exactly, have Penny Arcade's Tycho, Homestar Runner's Strong Bad, Max from Sam & Max, and the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 decided to share the same game-space? Turns out they're all pretty good friends, and they're just getting together for their regular card game.

Poker Night at the Inventory is the second of Telltale's "pilot" games, released alongside the company's usual episodic offerings. Thanks to the Telltale pedigree, we can expect the new game to be heavy on the charm. According to the announcement, all the characters will feature fully-voiced dialogue. I'm not sure I want to hear Tycho speak (might ruin the magic!) but Telltale's own "dynamic dialogue" system should provide some great lines for these towering personalities. All the speech in the game will be context sensitive--the characters will react to game events and trash-talk accordingly.

As you might've guessed from the Heavy's presence, Poker Night will feature Steamworks integration. (We expect some kind of fancy TF2 hat for Poker Night owners). Sounds like a barrel--nay, a keg--of monkeys. Now all we have to do is await the fall release, maybe put in a pre-order (it'll snag you 25% off the already-tiny $5 price tag) and decide which character we want to use. Tycho all the way!
