Winston Wolfe to replace Michael Scott?

Will The Wolf be solving problems in Scranton?

Exectuive Producer of The Office (and Toby on the show), Paul Lieberstein told E! Online something that may just be the greatest idea in the history of television. When asked about the gargantuan challenge of replacing Steve Carell as Scranton's branch manager on The Office, Lieberstein said they had the perfect person in mind: Harvey Keitel.

"He's probably the only guy who can do it, and he's doing TV now," Lieberstein said. I never would have thought of that, but amen.

Now granted, Lieberstein and his Office-mates have yet to contact the star's representation, so for now this is all a flight of fancy, but that hasn't kept Lieberstein from being excited. In fact he already has a lot of Keitel's would-be charachter's backstory in mind: "He's an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down, and he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years."

I have to admit, when it's come to the whole "Who will replace Michael Scott?" circus, I've been a little less than enthused. The fact is I haven't enjoyed the last two seasons they've produced with Carell, so the idea of replacing one of the strongest pieces (if not the strongest piece) of the ensemble doesn't really fill me with confidence that the show will return to its past glory. But when I heard that they were thinking of Keitel... It's over. I would watch every episode when it aired. No Hulu. No DVR. I wouldn't be able to wait. It would be appointment television for me. It's the perfect change-up for the show. It would start to be about something totally different. The sad life of the oblivious, bumbling but affable middle-manager would take a backseat, in favor of the sad life of the hyper-aware, talented but bitter middle-manager. Reading it, that last sentence sounds like sarcasm, but it's totally not. That shift would drastically alter the tone of the show (in my opinion) for the better. The Office + Winston Wolfe from Pulp Fiction + a little Death of a Salesman = A much more interesting show.
