Marvelling at the beauty of Sigur Rós’ ambient compositions while wondering what the hell is going on is a shared pastime for a lot of the band’s followers. In keeping with their gorgeous, bizarre aesthetic, the band has just released a music video for “Fjögur piano,” a track off their latest album, Valtari. The sprawling 7-minute video is unsettling, to say the least. Shia LaBeouf is naked, sucking an insect lollipop, all while surrounded by hundreds of mounted butterflies. Did I just watch Shia’s bid for respectability after the last Transformers movie? Nothing is certain.
While the music video is just as unintelligible as Sigur Rós’s lyrics, the band actually had no part in making the video. It’s the third installment of the ongoing Valtari Mystery Film Experiment, where the band gives a dozen filmmakers the same budget and asks them to create a music video for one of the album’s songs. Directed by Israeli documentary filmmaker Alma Har’el, “Fjögur piano” heavily incorporates modern dance, but it’s still a mystery as to whether Shia LaBeouf is actually any good at it.Check out the video below, let us know if you understand it, and share your new opinion of Shia LaBeouf after you've seen him go full-frontal.
