It's taken me a long time to digest the season finale of Girls, aptly titled "She Did." We have a lot to digest from all four of our hot messes. The heartbreak, confusion, laughter and pity all have boiled up until this point, concluding the first season with an interesting series of events and opening up the second season nicely.

Marnie has officially moved out of the apartment, prompting the very interesting development that Adam might move in. Yes, we all know that Adam's a complete and total weirdo, but in these last few episodes we've kind of grown to love him and his bizarre flavor of honesty.
Everyone gets a text to come meet Jessa for a mystery party. Even Charlie and Ray are invited, which throws me off a bit because I had no idea that they were such good friends with Jessa. Perhaps this is just a way to get them all together for the big moment- Jessa's wedding. WHAT.
Weddings, funerals, birthday parties...a lot of emotions are stirred. Marnie is at an incredible crossroads of her life, trying to loosen up and not take her life so seriously. She really lets loose at the wedding, drinking, dancing and considering f*cking Charlie in the bathroom (for a second. And she should have).
Shoshanna had an amazing episode, accepting her blanket hatred and frustrations with humanity. Of course, there's not a better time than that to loose your virginity, especially to the strange yet smart Ray. The two of them probably had the best one liners of the whole season. "You vibrate on a very strange frequency."
As for Jessa, I really didn't see the wedding coming at all. In fact, this character development made me angry. Are we supposed to take this seriously? Is there a green card issue here? I know that Jessa wanted to stop her own cycle of maneating. Her line "your dreams are not what you'd thought they'd be!" is apropos of the situation, but what dream could she hope to achieve?
But more importantly, Hannah got her motherf*cking comeuppance. I'm so happy that Adam completely called her out on her overwhelming bullshit. He's completely right in everything he yells at her for. She wanted a relationship, she wanted love, she wanted to be an adult and yet when she was confronted with all of these things, she selfishly turns away. That one line "I'm more scared than most people are...I'm like the most scared person alive" killed me. Adam retorts back "You don't have a f*cking right to be." She needs to realize that her self-imposed misery needs to be resolved if there's any hope for her in the future seasons.
This was perfectly illustrated by the fact that she fell asleep on the subway, purse stolen. Her problems are truly her fault and sitting on the Coney Island beach while eating wedding cake was a great concluding image. Please, Hannah, please grow from this.
Honestly, Girls has become one of my favorite shows despite my acknowledgment of all its criticism. I think that the potentially hateable protagonists mix well with the humor and endearment that we've come to love. There's something refreshing in the fact that these girls are not role models- but they could be.
