Watch: Footage Of Morrissey's Very First Solo Concert Surfaces On YouTube
Now here's a proper way to celebrate Morrissey's birthday: footage of Moz's first-ever solo concert (December 22, 1988 at England's Wolverhampton Civic Hall) has surfaced on YouTube. Backed by the remaining The Smiths line-up (with guitarist Craig Gannon filling in for the already-bolted Johnny Marr), the show served as both a showcase for Morrissey's new solo material and an awkward farewell of sorts for the band. Follow Morrissey Etc. on Ology for all the latest news, reviews, leaks, rumors, videos, tour dates, features, fan events and more As explained by the YouTube user who uploaded the 40-minute video: "The set list was a mix of new Morrissey solo tracks with Smiths tracks from 1987, none of which had been performed in front of a live audience b...

Update: Morrissey Celebrates His Birthday By Ranting Against Foie Gras
Morrissey celebrated his 54th birthday yesterday by (what else?) posting a note on True To You asking his fans to protest the sale of foie gras at UK department store Fortnum & Mason. Insert a round of "for he's a jolly good fellow" here, I suppose. As Morrissey points out, production of the (pretty disgusting) goose liver dish is illegal in England and yet it's still available over the counter for whatever reason. Follow Morrissey on Ology for all the latest news, reviews, leaks, rumors, videos, tour dates, features, fan events and more "Since Fortnum & Mason are now the only department store in London who are associated wi...

Celebrate Morrissey's Unhappy Birthday With 10 Classic Music Videos
While it's something of a yearly custom for me to celebrate Morrissey's birthday every May 22 (he turns 54 today), I feel it's doubly important to herald the life and career of Sir Stephen Patrick M. after the doozy of a year he's had. As you'll remember, Morrissey was forced to call off not one but two North American treks, suffered bout after bout of debilitating illness and even considered retiring from music altogether. Follow Morrissey Etc. for all the latest news, reviews, leaks, rum...

Amanda commented on Report: Four Reasons Why The Internet Pretends To Hate Amanda Palmer:
“I follow Neil Gaiman on Twitter. The only time I ever see Amanda Palmer mentioned on the internet is when he mentions her on his feed. Interesting how apparently everyone and their grandma except for me seems to be obsessing over her on the internet as this article claims. I clearly need to get out from under my rock more often.”

Watch Johnny Marr Cover "How Soon Is Now?" With The Smiths' Andy Rourke
On Friday night in Brooklyn, Johnny Marr reunited with The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke onstage for a rendition of "How Soon Is Now?" that sure left a tremendous pile of blown minds in its wake. Follow Morrissey Etc. for all the latest news, reviews, leaks, rumors, videos, tour dates, features, fan events and more from Moz and Johnny Marr "When I was 15 and formed one of the first bands with my best friend, he was at that time one of the best musicians I'd ever heard. We were just kids," said Marr, by way of introduction. "Then, in 1982, I formed a band in Manchester, and I asked my best friend to come play the bass with me and he's still one of the best musicians I'd ever heard. And tonight, 30 years later, I'm going to invite one of my best friends...

“Oh, sweetie. I used to be a big fan! Then she made it clear she has no respect for anyone who's actually different, despite her "quirky girl" image. Good try, though. (I'm trying to make this comment as patronizing as your article. Is it working? Do I need more pet names?)”

Watch Johnny Marr Play "The Messenger" & "How Soon Is Now?" On 'Jimmy Fallon'
Johnny Marr dropped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night to perform "The Messenger" (the fantastic title track off his amazing debut solo album of the same name… read my rave review) and The Smiths' eternal classic "How Soon Is Now?" as a web exclusive. Follow Morrissey Etc. on Ology for all the latest news, reviews, leaks, rumors, videos, tour dates, features, fan events and more from Morrissey & Marr Even without Ronnie Wood, "How Soon Is Now?" still sounds beyond amazing in Marr's more than capable hands. It's too bad Morrissey wasn't tuning in; we all know

Morrissey Announces (Another) Lengthy North American Fall Tour

Brett Warner
'80s Music
Morrissey Etc.

Despite confused reports (ahem) to the contrary, Morrissey is not, in fact, retiring in two years. If anything, the former Smiths frontman is touring harder, faster and meaner than ever, visiting countries we've never heard of before to perform his solo favorites, a few Smiths classics and even a song or two from that finished new studio album he's apparently been sitting on for the past two years.

| Concert Review: Morrissey @ Royal Oak Music Theater (12/18/11) |

Fresh off his out-of-court settlement with NME (more on that), Moz has announced plans to return to North America this fall for yet another lengthy trek across our acceptable Western continent. (If you're lucky enough to be in the Los Angeles area on November 24, Morrissey will be sharing the stage with none other than Iggy and The Stooges. Because, why not, right?) Kristeen Young will once again be opening all dates; keep your ears to the ground for on sale dates and more ticket information.
