You know, it's easy to pick on Mitt Romney's lack of consistency. And fun! So here you go, courtesy, Romney's interview with CSPAN:
"I ask a number of people close to the area of subject to come in and present their views," Romney said. "I like having debate. I like having two sides. I didn't go to law school, I didn't practice law, but I like the idea of arguing points back and forth and sorting through them, and being able to probe, in some cases you need to go back and get more information."
Catch that? The "I didn't go to law school" part? Romney attended Harvard Law School, the same law school Barack Obama attended several years later. Your mom, God, and everybody else can already write the Obama campaign commercial for them: "If Mitt Romney can't even keep a consistent position on his own life, how can you believe him about anything else?" I'm sure there will be something about an Etch-A-Sketch in there.
(By the by, the article about the interview linked to above didn't correct Romney, because the Media Must Remain Objective, except when it's a liberal conspiracy.)
Romney has before disparaged Harvard elites, despite holding a dual degree from the overrated august insitution. But this is the first time he's outright denied having attended the school. (Perhaps the Washington Post can dig up some bullying stories to remind him.)
According to the Eternal Law of Gaffes, which holds that a gaffe has its worst effect when it confirms a preexisting negative opinion about a candidate, this is pretty bad. Conservative voters are already worried about Romney flipping his GOP primary positions (with good cause); independents don't know whether to trust him. This won't help allay either of those fears.
