I am kicking myself right now. Not only do I live in Brooklyn and this was something that I could have taken a short subway ride to, I wasn't even aware of the Northside Festival. I'm the worst New Yorker.
Anyway, something really awesome happened. GZA, who some would say as the Godfather of the Wu-Tang Clan, performed the entirety of Liquid Swords with latin funk orchestra group Fantasmo.
Of course, maybe it was a good thing that I wasn't there, because my head would have probably exploded.
Uproxx's Josh Kurp was there and wrote a nice little review on the experience. The terms "religious experience" are used. By all accounts this performance was as orgasmic as you'd expect. I think my favorite quote from the piece is, "He’s a pro, knowing exactly when to throw out a well-placed 'Wu-Tang Clan ain't nuthing ta f*ck wit’,' without it sounding like he’s pandering to the crowd."
Honestly, just merely writing this piece makes me just want to commiserate with you guys that weren't there either. We'll get through this together, you guys.
