Noticed a sudden onslaught of 8-bit chiptune remakes of your favorite classic alternative albums? I'd say it's starting get a little bit annoying… except they're all so damn cool. Radiohead's OK Computer and Kid A, Garbage's Version 2.0 and now Nine Inch Nails' 1989 classic debut album Pretty Hate Machine have all received the 8-bit treatment this month and, without discounting the hours I've spent listening to this stuff (it's a little embarrassing how little I have to do most evenings), I think I can confidently say that Inverse Phase's Pretty Eight Machine is the best of the bunch.

Check it out below (via Cristina Rocks).
If you're interested in all the boards and sound configurations that went into making the album (it's all techno gobbledygook to me), be sure to check the album out on Bandcamp, where you can grab a download for $6.50 or order a copy on CD for $10. "A lot of thought, love, blood, sweat, and tears went into this album," writes chiptune auteur Inverse Phase. "I encourage you to explore the info links next to the track names to understand the history behind each one."
Meanwhile, I encourage you to check out "Terrible Lie" (brilliantly re-titled "Atarible Lie") and tell me it's not the coolest thing you've heard all week.
