Apart from maybe Prince during his mid-'90s Symbol phase, there isn't much precedence for exactly how much new Green Day music we're going to have rained down upon us this fall. As previously announced (see below), the Broadway-dabbling punk rock trio is returning this fall with their three-fold follow-up to 21st Century Breakdown: a trilogy of new albums appropriately titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre! (If I have to explain the third album's purposeful misspelling, you probably aren't reading this in the first place.)
The first album drops September (¡Dos! and ¡Tre! follow on November 13 and January 15, respectively). In the meantime, check out the official album trailer, featuring a quick preview of what to expect on the album plus its very green and pink album cover.
So much for that return to straightforward punk rock they promised, right? Sounds like a mix of Foxboro Hot Tubs and something they might've dumped on Shenanigans (i.e. it's awesome). Seriously, did you think Green Day could put out three albums right in a row and not break some new stylistic ground? With that much new albumage, a Siberian polka funeral hymn wouldn't surprise me.
Meanwhile, what do you guys think of the ¡Uno! album cover? I'm thinking we can expect to see Mike and Tre on the other two covers, but what do you guys think? Let us know in the comments section below!
