There's still maddeningly little that we know for sure about producer Nigel Godrich's (Radiohead, Beck) new project Ultraísta. We know it also features Joey Waronker and Laura Bettinson… we know it has its own website, Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter… we know what "smalltalk" sounds like… and we're pretty sure that a Ultraísta isn't, in fact, a senior Starbucks barista (trust me, I asked).
Of course, we don't know exactly what the super secretive new band has in store or when they plan on releasing it. In the meantime, though, a new song called "Static Light" has crawled out into existence; check it out below.
Bettinson's vocals are great… she gives off kind of a Lætitia Sadier vibe without ever doing that lazy Euro swagger thing… and Godrich's production is, of course, top notch. Ever wondered why all of Radiohead's albums sound so damn good? Look no further. I think I like this one just a bit more than "smalltalk," but between the two songs, I think I can confidently say that Ultraísta needs to: 1.) have an album, and 2.) put it out soon.
