Even though he won American Idol just a few weeks ago, it's been a rough summer so far for Phillip Phillips, 21. Just days after the singer was released from the hospital following intensive kidney surgery, the Georgia pawnshop his family owns was broken into and many expensive items were stolen.
The shop, Albany Sporting Goods and Pawn, was left unattended for a few days while the singer’s parents tended to their son in California. Thieves broke into the establishment via mechanical digger and ultimately ended up stealing more than $4,000 worth of goods while the owners were out west.
TMZ first reported that various jewelry, guns, flat screen televisions and antique coins were among the items stolen in the raid, which was most likely planned far in advance: before the burglary, the store’s power and phone lines had been cut and disconnected.
Despite all of Phillip’s recent success on AI, this has probably put a damper on the whole situation. Hopefully Phillip’s recovery is running smoothly and police are able to narrow down suspects and figure this whole mess out.
