Laura Griffin, Liam Hemsworth’s high school girlfriend, has spoken to Celebuzz about the young couple’s recent engagement announcement, telling the source she was VERY surprised to hear about it. Yeah, us too.
Griffin, who dated the now famous actor for six years, lives in Melbourne, Australia. Although she was reluctant to speak about her ex, Griffin confessed that he was still someone she cared about, and wished him the best. Like the rest of the world, Laura found out about the shocking news via tabloids.
"Hearing your high school sweetheart—who is the same age as you—is getting married, is a shock," she said. "Of course it hurts seeing someone I spent so many years with moving on, especially when I learned from the media."
Despite the rumors that Liam cheated on her with Miley while the two filmed The Last Song in 2009, Laura claims that that was not the case. "Liam never cheated on me—that was portrayed in the media—but he had ended things with me when Miley and him began dating."
Even though she was taken aback by the news, Laura seems to have only positive wishes for the future husband and wife, even if most people think they are too young to be engaged.
"If that person is your person and the world seems perfect with them in it, then yes, I do believe it can work," she said. "He is an amazing person and Miley is lucky to have him. Nothing more or less than congratulations."
Even though it’s kind of annoying (and expected) that she’s speaking to the tabloids, Griffin seems to be handing the situation very maturely. She portrays both Miley and Liam in a positive light and doesn’t seem to be holding a grudge. This whole situation shocked all of America, so it must have been even more surprising for her ears.
