Brewers pitcher Zack Greinke, also known as the Holden Caulfield of MLB, mowed down the Cubs in Milwaukee last night, striking out 12 and surrendering just two hits over seven scoreless innings.
Pitching at home this year, Greinke is 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .170 against him. On the road, Greinke is 3-2 with a 5.92 ERA, and opponents are hitting .364 against him.
Zack Greinke: Holden Caulfield Of Major League Baseball
And this is not a new trend. Last year Greinke was a perfect 11-0 at home, and 5-6 on the road.
Finally last night, a reporter got to the bottom of the issue with Greinke. Asked why he does so well at home, Greinke responded in true Holden Caulfield fashion:
"You're comfortable at home. You wake up in your bed," he said. "You don't have to go anywhere to get your breakfast and coffee. Sometimes, in the hotels they have bad coffee or something, so you have to go do other stuff. (At home) you get to come to the field in your car.
"Our clubhouse is nice. In some of those clubhouses you don't have space to get ready. Here, you have a routine that's easy to do. There's lots of space. That helps a lot in making you comfortable."
Take note, Brewers brass: Doug Melvin, Ron Roenicke. When you're on the road, you get that breakfast in bed and a good cup of coffee.
