Remember the subsequent split of Sonic Youth stemming from the divorce of Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon that had us crying in bed at night while listening to Daydream Nation on repeat to remind us of what once was? Have no fear kiddies, the once coolest alt-rock couple on the musical block is at least on the creative mend with Yoko Ono, all in the name of charity.

The three are combining talents on a 14 minute single titled “Early in the Morning” which can be purchased as a 2 dollar digital download on Chimera. All proceeds going to Ashinga Rainbow House, an organization that supports victims of the Japanese Tsunami in March of 2011. Granted, any 14 minute song seems a little overindulgent, but if that's what it takes to see the parents of alternative rock together, then 14 minutes is how long I will listen. With chant-like sounds coming from Yoko Ono while mixing in transcendental chimes and Moore’s simple strumming to start, maybe we’re in for a pretty good treat.
For those of you who are iTunes-only elitists, “Early in the Morning” will be released on Amazon and iTunes on June 19th. Anyone purchasing the track to simply show off that they are a good person can purchase a 10” vinyl edition as well. What I’m saying here is that either we can buy the track, or we can buy the track.
