Thanks to mother nature's bipolar disorder, after semi-destroying the Memorial Day weekend with pouring rain, she has decided to now drench us in the hot blazing sun—not that we would prefer rain over sun, so we appreciate it, I guess.
But if you were lucky enough to escape the rain for a poolside weekend in the Hamptons, you're probably feeling the burn. Red-hot weather, which often leads to some serious skin damage (tans count, too!), can be very nasty at times: think red, swollen, itchy, irritable and peeling skin. Ouch! So if you're part of the unfortunate crowd, the following are some tips and treatments to try!
Immediately After Sunburn
Slather a generous amount (and I mean it!) of soothing and calming products on your entire body including your face.

Before Shower
Remove any dirt, oil and makeup on your face with gentle wipes instead of hot (and not even warm) water to provide a clean surface for any after-treatments.

Korres Milk Proteins Cleansing and Makeup Removal Wipes, $12
During Shower
Do not exfoliate or even rub skin because any aggressive moves would irritate your extra sensitive skin. Skip the soap and let cool water slowly rinse off any remaining suntan lotion or dirt on your body.
After Shower
Be sure to pat (NOT rub!) dry with a fluffy towel. You'll need some intense moisturizing treatment at this point. Make sure to cover not only your body and face with respective nourishing cream, but also your lips and other easily neglected parts such as the back of your ear and elbows.

Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Relief Overnight Cream, $6.79
Supergoop! SPF 30+ UVA I UVB ACaiFusion And MintFusion Lip Balms, $8.5
Quick Tips:
Many herbs and plants such as aloe vera and chamomile are great for healing and calming burned, irritable skin. They can be applied to all skin types due to their organic nature.

Aloe Pura Aloe Vera Gel Skin Treatment 200ml, $12.99
We've also heard that you could spray red wine vinegar directly on your sunburned skin right after you get out of the shower. Though we were a bit skeptical about this — because vinegar on peeling skin? Sounds catastrophic — It's a tried-and-true remedy here at the Ology HQ. Just be sure to spray liberally from 6-8 inches away. And maybe don't venture out in public for a good hour or so.
Last but not least, refrain from applying too much makeup after sunburn. For one, it would draw more attention to your face if there's color wheel going on. Secondly and most importantly, let your skin breathe and heal. I know it may be painful to think about, but less is definitely more in this case — put the foundation away.
