Bust out your best eyeliner, gentlemen: Placebo have announced the release of Loud Like Love, their seventh studio album and long-awaited follow-up to 2009's Battle For The Sun and last year's B3 EP. Out September 17, the album (set to feature 10 new tracks) was recorded in London with producer Adam Noble and will purportedly be available in a slew of different formats including a colored vinyl editions and even a "3D Lenticular Super Deluxe Box Set," because why not, right?

Not much word yet re: what we can expect to hear on Loud Like Love, but judging from the title and caliber of tunes on B3 (my review), I'd sa...
Why wasn't two-time Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante at the band's recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction? Could be because he's been putting the finishing touches on two upcoming solo releases: an EP called Letur-Lefr (out July 17) and the full-length album PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone (September 24). Of course, it could be because he's John Frusciante, and not showing up to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is a classically John Frusciante thing to do.
Want to hear a new song off the aforementioned EP? Stop by Frusciante's official website, where you can pre-order Letur-Lefr and download one of its five songs— a 1:30 bit of business called "Glowe." You can also (ahem) stream the song for free (though I'm accepting charitable donations via hugs and/or compliments on my appearance today) below.
No, it's not a whole lot to write home about, but as far as minute-and-a-half songs go, it's pretty cool—love the mellow, not all that un-RHCP-esque guitar lines juxtaposed with the choppy, homemade beats and pieced-together loops and samples. It's definitely homemade and organic, which is a nice change of pace if you're more attuned to the Chili Peppers' disciplined (at least nowadays) approach to record making.
If you haven't heard any of John Frusciante's solo records before, do yourself a major favor and check 'em out on Spotify. (Niandra LaDes And Usually Just A T-Shirt is my favorite.)
