Fresh off the very good news that he's been declared cancer free (see below), soul legend Bobby Womack opted to leak another song from his new album The Bravest Man In The Universe (out June 12), co-produced by Plastic Beach collaborator Damon Albarn. If you've been digging on "Please Forgive My Heart" (listen here), you'll flip your proverbial (or literal, hopefully) wig when you hear "Dayglo Reflection," featuring the surprisingly un-pouty/annoying (on this song, anyway) Lana Del Rey.
Absolutely love the production—it's beautifully sparse, utilizing just a jazzy piano chord progression, sputtering drums, and those well-timed vocal samples. Womack's vocals are gorgeously stark, strained and filled with a lifetime's worth of pain and regret… while Del Rey's are predictably soaked with reverb. It's sort of the audio equivalent of those old movies where the starlet actress would appear on screen, soaked in soft light, don't you think? It's a somberly meandering, pensive, beautifully laid-back track— someone explain to me why Damon Albarn isn't producing everyone's new album? I guess this (sort of) explains his remix of Lana's "Born To Die." (Groannnn….) Do yourself a solid and listen to this song again instead.
