Stare At Three New 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Posters
While MTV announced their yearly batch of nominees for their upcoming Movie Awards, it may have been a bummer to see that the Hunger Games franchise was left out of the ranks. Never fret: while the original film nabbed a slew of nods in 2012, Catching Fire won't arrive until November, which means you'll have to wait until 2014 to decide how many popcorn trophies it deserves. But mark our words: we've got a sneaky little feeling that you'll be getting a look at the upcoming adventure thriller at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, going down on April 14th.
In the meantime, there are three brand new posters for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire that should please your eyes as three of the films stars give you regal Captiol realness, including Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), and Ceasar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci). Now that the Suzanne Collins’ novel adaptation The Hunger Games is officially a box office success—and calling the first film in the franchise with a record-breaking $153 million opening weekend simply a “success” might be one of the biggest understatements of the year—all eyes are now focused on the sequel Catching Fire, a film that is already under dangerous pressure to keep up the success of its predecessor. Wherepart of Games’success and brilliance lay was in its casting, bringing in big names as well as turning small stars into huge ones, you can bet that upcoming roles for the film, including parts for Finnick Odair, Plutarch Heavensbee, Johanna Mason, Beetee, and more will be some of the most sought-after parts in Hollywood, as well as highly contested by fans.
As a man whose ends are believed to justify his means, Plutarch Heavensbee needs to be played by an actor who can effectively portray friend and foe interchangeably. He’s a leader of the rebellion, but this leads to the murder of the Capitol children at his hand in Mockingjay. He’s someone who earns Katniss’ trust in Catching Fire, but we need an actor who can take his determination and ruthlessness to the next level. Here’s who we’re thinking:
Idris Elba
Claims To Fame: Obsessed, Takers, Thor iMDB Starmeter Rank: 224 (he’s in with Matthew McConaughey, Ben Stiller, Chace Crawford) Why: Despite being well-known—you don’t get that high on the Starmeter for nothing—Idris has excelled in his smaller sized roles than his big ones: his leading Obsessed (opposite Beyonce) was successful, but he gains notoriety for roles in flicks like Thor and the upcoming Prometheus. Catching Fire could be a nice addition to that roster.
Terry O’Quinn
Claims To Fame: LOST, Hawaii Five-0, 666 Park Avenue iMDB Starmeter Rank: 1,557 (he’s in with Steve Zahn, John Francis Daley, Sofia Coppola) Why: From his career-making role on LOST as John Locke, Terry O’Quinn is known for playing the trustworthy/untrustworthy fearless leader, which would fit Plutarch perfectly. But being absent on the big screen for almost 10 years might be tough for him to make the transition, and with dark spooker 666 Park Avenue on the way this fall, he might not have the time.
Cillian Murphy
Claims To Fame: Inception, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins iMDB Starmeter Rank: 114 (he’s in with Tom Hanks, Hugh Laurie, Emma Watson) Why: He’s a definitive big-screen creeper, great for all of your villain-y needs (see: The Dark Knight, Red Eye), but that might be the problem: if you’re looking for a humanized Plutarch with a little more duality, going for the full-on evil guy might not be the best option.
Jon Hamm
Claims To Fame: Mad Men, Bridesmaids iMDB Starmeter Rank: 361 (he’s in with Javier Bardem, Nathan Fillion, Kevin Bacon) Why: He’s got both TV and film creds to his name, and while his star turning role on Mad Men is still front and center, roles in Bridesmaids, Sucker Punch, and Shrek Forever After haven’t hurt. Plutarch has to be a stand-up leader with a dark side, and if that’s not Don Draper, we don’t know who is.
Jared Harris
Claims To Fame: Mad Men, Sherlock Holmes, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button iMDB Starmeter Rank: 670 (he’s in with Alex O’Loughlin, Halle Berry, Lucy Liu) Why: Just because Don Draper is partners with Lane Pryce doesn’t mean that Jared Harris can’t upstage Jon Hamm for the coveted Plutarch gig. He’s got an incredible roster of films, from Sherlock Holmes to Benjamin Button to Resident Evil. Why not a little Fire?
John Travolta
Claims To Fame: Grease, Pulp Fiction, Face/Off iMDB Starmeter Rank: 193 (he’s in with Tobey Maguire, Jensen Ackles, Paul Rudd) Why: BECAUSE HE’S JOHN FREAKING TRAVOLTA. Is there anything he can’t do?
