So I know that this whole season of Game of Thrones has been a little lackluster. But you know what, that's OK. I guess as a whole the second season was about setting up the chess pieces for the rest of the second, third and yes, even fourth season. So is a slightly boring season all that bad?
No, absolutely not. Especially because last night was so incredibly epic that it makes up for the weeks of waiting. Best episode of the year? It's a very strong contender. Actually, I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened. Was this episode so good because it was actually written by George R.R. Martin? That it was directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion)?
It was not only packed with incredible action sequences but everyone acted their face off. There was no star of this episode really, everyone was so great, but I think I was most impressed by Lena Heady, Cersei. If she isn't nominated for the great scenes where she got HAMMERED in a tower while the kingdom was in the midst of war.
I'm having a hard time writing down all my feelings about this, so we're going to do bullet points:
-Friend of the site and cool dude Matthew Harrison Meade wrote: "I would follow Peter Dinkledge into hell." Clearly, that speech he made was Emmy worthy. We all started chanting "HALFMAN HALFMAN!" with the rest of the troops.
-The Hound was incredible. He's going to have a pretty big season coming up and his performance was complex and intense, like a good Hound should be.
-Whoever did the special effects regarding wildfire and the rest of the battle sequences deserves free ale for the rest of his/her life. It was exactly what it needed to be- horrific and strangely beautiful.
-Gratuitous violence! Heads being smashed with rocks, intestines spilling everywhere. Good GIF material (get on that internet).
-F*ck that little weasel Joffrey, now and always.
-I just really want Sansa to flip out. Her line "Joffrey will live. The worst ones always do." was great, I just wish that she'll stab somebody.
-I kind of wish they played out the whole "Renly's Ghost" thing a bit more, but I understand that if they decided to condense the war on King's Landing into one episode they had to edit things down.
-What on earth is going to happen in the final episode now? Jon's story, Ayra's story, Robb's? Will it even be half as exciting as this one?
What are your thoughts on "Blackwater?" I'd love to have a discussion with you about expectations, scenes and where you think the season will end. For all Game of Thrones stuff, follow here!
