Ladies, did you hit the beach in your best swimsuits over Memorial Day Weekend? If so, are you one of almost 70% of women who are willing to give up sex for at least a month just to have the ideal beach body? Of course, these two aren't related (unless we're talking aerobic-level sex stunts, in which case you should really be more careful) but if you're willing to forego some copulation in exchange for a flat stomach, you're certainly not alone.
According to a survey conducted by Shape Magazine and FitSugar, more than 80 percent of women state they feel overly pressured to lose weight to live up to the bikini-ready body figure that our culture endorses. Another 60 percent of women are currently undergoing diet facing the swimsuit season. Half of these women detest their abs, and almost 30 percent of them are self-conscious about their thighs. What kind of diets are they on, you ask? Here's the breakdown:
53% Cut calories
22% Cut carbs
3% Rely on detox diets
1% Use juice fasts
The irrational insecurities among women, which are no doubt encouraged by magazines and the like, have gone viral. 90 percent of the readers said they would never like a photo of themselves tagged wearing a swimsuit and 44 percent said they would even remove tag or ask friends to take the picture down—don't these all sound far too familiar?
With 80 percent of the respondents saying they would like to lose at least five pounds, it seems like Memorial Day Weekend was just a little test run, and this summer is going to be one long battle. Are you dieting for summer time?
