Jessica Sanchez is one of the final two competing to become the nation’s next superstar on season 11 of American Idol. Although opponent Phillip Phillips has emerged as the viewer favorite throughout the past few weeks, Sanchez (a San Diego native), has the voice of someone beyond her 16 years. Before the winner is revealed, we thought we’d share some cool facts about the teen on the verge of becoming the next “big thing.”
5 Things To Know About Phillip Phillips
1. American Idol is not the first show Sanchez has appeared on. The singer made her first televised appearance on Showtime at the Apollo at the age of 10. Despite her young age, she received a standing ovation after performing Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.” A year later, Sanchez went on to compete in the first season of America’s Got Talent. Although she didn’t win, host Brandy told her she was “going to be huge.” This may be true after tonight!
2. Sanchez told Us Weekly that her hair used to be so long that people called her Pocahontas. Yikes!
3. Sanchez, who started performing at age two, sang the national anthem at a San Diego Chargers home game when she was in middle school. A junior in high school, Sanchez is now home schooled. Well if she does apply to college, she’ll have some impressive things to put on her resume.
4. She’s terrified of heights but enjoys going on Ferris wheels.
5. She’s a fashionista. The singer told Us that she loves wearing high heels (“the taller the heel the better!”) and is always buying new jewelry!
