"You know me -- I love the show of it," said Jay-Z last week, addressing his first annual Made In America Festival to Billboard. "I will reveal [the lineup] in time and we'll do some silly things that no one understands and they'll figure it out." Apart from expecting President Obama to show up (shrug, never say never), there's nothing silly about the Made In America lineup thus far—Billboard and Pitchfork are reporting that Pearl Jam, Passion Pit, The Dirty Projectors, D'Angelo, Odd Future, Skrillex, Maybach Music, Janelle Monae, X, and Santigold are all set to appear at the two-day festival, going down at Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway on September 1 and 2.
Yes, that's the X… as in the legendary Los Angeles punk troupe. And yes, that's the D'Angelo, who hasn't performed a date stateside in roughly 81 years. I guess when Jay-Z calls, you agree to do whatever he asks. A heavy R&B and hip-hop turnout was to be expected, but it's great to see a good selection of rock, indie, and EDM artists on the roster as well. It's going to be one hell of weekend, Philly.
Tickets for the Budweiser-sponsored festival (which we're told will feature 28 total acts) go on sale tomorrow morning at 10:00am EST.
