Perhaps sensing that their weird but definitely appealing new single "Night And Day" deserved an equally wonky new video, Hot Chip tapped director Peter Serafinowicz and guest stars Reggie Watts, Lara Stone and Terence Stamp (a massive electro-pop aficionado, I'm told) to appear in the new clip, which boogied its way online earlier today. "Many animals were harmed during the making of this video," says Serafinowicz via press releases. "Regrettably, none of them made the final edit". Before you even ask—no, Reggie Watts' hair doesn't technically or biologically count.
Okay. Right. So Reggie Watts and Lara Stone are piloting separate space ships filled with dancing monks (in hoodies, of course) and ballerinas and OH MY GOD, IT'S KING EGG. KNEEL BEFORE KING EGG!!! Somehow Terence Stamp (looking especially professorial, don't you think?) enters the mix as the ships arrive at earth, dropping off their passengers (King Egg stays behind) before locking into a giant floating ying-yang… that promptly crash into a stuff English college campus building. Hoorah!
It's the craziest thing I've seen in a minute, but, like last week's Jools Holland performance (see above), it's slowly but surely making me fall in love with the song. Better late than never, right?
(psst New album In Our Heads drops June 12.)
