The music industry has lost yet another phenomenal talent. Bee Gees member Robin Gibb has died at the age of 62.
"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery," his rep said in a statement. "The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
In April 2010 Gibb was put in a coma after suffering with pneumonia, later having surgery for a blocked bowel and more recently intestinal surgery in March 2012. His issues seemed to be extensive but he wasn't alone. His brother Maurice died in 2003 after a twisted intestine complication and his brother Andy died from a heart ailment in 1988.
Gibb will without a doubt be leaving a lot behind. He may be best known for his song "Stayin' Alive" from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack but he and the Bee Gees also went on to win seven Grammy Awards and were later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
These past few months have been tough for those in the music industry. Other musicians that have died recently include Whitney Houston, Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch and Donna Summer.
Our heart goes out to his family and friends.
