People love Community. People love showrunner Dan Harmon. That's why people likely will HATE the news that Dan Harmon is being replaced -- against his will! -- as showrunner of the NBC comedy.
To my uneducated eyes, it appears as thought the real evildoer in this situation is Sony Pictures Television, which chose David Guarascio and Moses Port to take over as showrunners. According to Harmon's blog, Sony hasn't talked to him since the show got picked up for an additional 13 episodes, and while speculation had run rampant that Harmon was out, this news makes his departure official.
As Emily Cheever noted in her post on Harmon (linked above), NBC psychopath Bob Greenblatt claimed that shows do well all the time after replacing a showrunner. I don't have the television history background to verify or debunk this claim, but if I were NBC, I wouldn't mess with a show that has a strong niche audience AND gives Chevy Chase a reason to live. Didn't anyone learn anything from Arrested Development? People will lament this loss through all of humanity's future (i.e. the next few months).
The good news is that, judging from Dan Harmon's blog post, he's taking it REALLY WELL. Not bitter at all. Somebody get that guy a lollipop.
