Ratings Recap: Is 2 Hours Too Much 'Glee'?

Glee continued its march to graduation with a two episodes and Howard Stern made his debut week on America's Got Talent count, but could either unseat NCIS: Original Recipe or LA? Your Tuesday fast national ratings start below:

At Ology, we judge shows by two factors: the total number of viewers (in millions) as well as the percentage of viewers in the incredibly crucial 18-49 year old demographic (so 1% of viewers aged 18-49 tuning in is expressed as a 1.0 demo rating). That demo number is almost more important than the overall number of viewers; despite the millions, a show that can nail that youthful core has a better shot at securing a renewal. So if you see us throwing around demo digits all loosely, you know why.

There was twice as much Glee, but not as many viewers: Glee will be on in Thursdays in the fall, but its going to need to do a lot better than it did last night. With two back-to-back hours the show only managed a 2.5 in the demo, with 6.03 million viewers. Except for the CW, the only show that Glee managed to beat was ABC's Cougar Town. So the show will desperately need a boost when it gets The X Factor as a lead-in next fall.

America's Got Talent is strong: Adding Howard Stern seems to have been an effective way for the summer blockbuster to maintain its buzz. The show averaged 10.41 million viewers and a 3.4 rating in the key demo, good enough to push NBC to a rare second place finish (behind CBS' untouchable NCIS franchise). America's Got Talent is one of the few shows airing a premiere, rather than a finale, this week, so it will be interesting to see if those numbers hold when the competition clears out.

Let's flog The L.A. Complex's corpse: The L.A. Complex is totally dead, but the numbers are so apocalyptically bad that I couldn't help but share this. In the key demo, the series posted a 0.2, a number so low that it is actually below a repeat of The King of Queens that aired on TV Land at midnight. Yikes!
