It's hard to believe that graduation time is here! In honor of this exciting (and stressful) time, we thought we'd show you some celebrities who spent a LOT of their time in the classroom earning degrees. Some of the names will shock you!
David Duchovny: Before he portrayed the very sexy Hank Moody on Californication, Duchovny studied English literature as an undergraduate at Princeton. He took this nerdiness even further, earning a master’s in the same subject from Yale University. The fact that he is this smart is just too much to handle.
Ron Jeremy: Say what? It’s hard to believe that the so-called “King of Porn” is actually pretty smart. Jeremy, who has appeared in more than 2,000 porn films, has a master’s degree in special education from Queens College in New York. That’s okay, I don’t think anyone can picture Jeremy being a teacher anyways…
Shaquille O’Neal: Shaq left his college career at Louisiana State University early to play professional basketball, but returned in 2000 to complete his bachelor’s degree in general studies. With a NBA championship in hand, Shaq earned a master’s degree online from the University of Phoenix in 2005. Talk about having it all.
Ashley Judd: Even though Ashley Judd is mostly known for being one of America’s sweethearts throughout the 90s, she’s also smarter than most actresses out there. Judd, who is famous for her roles in Kiss the Girls and Where the Heart Is, graduated from the University in Kentucky. In 2010, she received her master’s in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Now that’s impressive.
Christy Turlington: She has beauty and brains. Model Christy Turlington received a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion and Eastern philosophy from New York University in 1994 and is in the process of receiving a master’s degree in public health from Columbia.
Rowan Atkinson: Most people know him as the clumsy Mr. Bean, but Atkinson is way more intelligent than he lets on. Before he was a working actor, Atkinson received a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Oxford University in 1975. That’s definitely a shocker.
Kristin Chenoweth: This Emmy-award winning actress/singer is most popular for her portrayal as Glinda in the Broadway musical Wicked and guest starring in Glee, but she’s also highly educated. Chenoweth attended Oklahoma City University, where she earned both a bachelor’s degree in musical theater and a master’s in opera performance. Her voice is definitely qualified.
James Franco: This one probably doesn’t come as much of a shock. Franco seems to always be at a new school earning a new degree. For those of you who didn’t know, Franco has both a bachelor and master’s degree under his belt and is in the process of getting his Ph.D. in English at Yale. We get it, you’re smart. Now can you please just revive that stoner role from Pineapple Express?
Ken Jeong: He’s known as the naked asian gangster guy in the Hangover movies and Señor Chang on Community, but he’s also a legit doctor. Before he hit it big as a comedian, Jeong earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University and went on to receive a medical degree at UNC Chapel Hill. So does that mean he wasn’t really acting when he played Katherine Heigl’s doctor in Knocked Up?
Bill Cosby: The star of The Cosby Show got his doctorate in education in 1976, and even used his own shows as inspiration while writing his dissertation: “An Integration of the Visual Media Via ‘Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids’ Into the Elementary School Curriculum as a Teaching Aid and Vehicle to Achieve Increased Learning.” That’s a handful of a title, but probably one entertaining read.
