Animal Collective's Brian "Geologist" Weitz spoke with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe last night about this fall's most anticipated new indie release—the experimental Baltimore troupe's long-overdue new album Centipede Hz (out September 4 via Domino Records). It's been a long three years since the fellas dropped Merriweather Post Pavilion—long enough to decide not to repeat or build upon that album's electronic patchwork approach, apparently.

"We got a little practice space in this barn on Josh [Dibb]'s mom's property and it was basically like being a garage band again," says Geologist, explaining the band's decision to record together in Baltimore again. "This one we wrote more as a rock band in a room and we wanted to record it that way as well."
Translation? Expect a return to the buzzy, chaotic experimentalism of early pre-Animal Collective records like Danse Manatee and Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. Adjust your personal level of excitement accordingly.
Seriously though, who's bursting at the seams with excitement over Centipede Hz? Leave some paw prints in our comments section below.
