So finally we're treated to the trailer for The Mindy Project, Mindy Kaling's new show. Everybody likes Mindy. She's cute and funny and smart and is just one of those women in entertainment that girls like me idolize. So we (the collective we, which probably includes you) were pretty excited when we found out that her new show got picked up by Fox for a pretty decent Tuesday night time slot.
What we have here, as far as just a trailer goes, is a kind of underwhelming representation of the single life of Mindy. Sure, Chris Messina is looking foine (he's the one who talks about Springsteen) and there will probably be very amusing performances by Bill Hader and Ed Helms but come on. The whole show can't be just about the impossibilities of dating, right?
But you know what? I seem to remember having the exact same feelings about New Girl when it premiered and that show turned into one of my favorite new shows of the season. Sure, a lot of that has to do with the cast chemistry, but perhaps The Mindy Project will just add to the really solid comedy block that Fox is lining up. Meanwhile NBC weeps and Fox just laughs at it.
