Was anyone particularly excited to see Mick Jagger serve as both host and musical guest on next week's season finale of Saturday Night Live five minutes ago? No, not particularly. Should you be excited now? Hell to the sure. In an exciting new development, NBC has announced that both Arcade Fire and the Foo Fighters will also be appearing on May 19's show, presumably to serve as Sir Mick's backing group(s).
Needless to say, we'll be tuning in… out of morbidly curiosity. Seems like a waste to cram so much musical talent into one show, only to blow it all on two Rolling Stones (or, shudder, solo Jagger) songs, doesn't it? We know Arcade Fire are down to shoot a digital short (or three) and that Dave Grohl saying or doing anything is inherently hilarious… so exactly how much show does that leave for Mick? More importantly—can we please… please… cut the "What Up With That?" and Herb Welch sketches and just watch Mick Jagger sing "Brown Sugar" with Grohl and Win Butler backing him up instead? Is that too much to ask?
