Look up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No it’s…wait, Mila Kunis? Yup, Kunis is the latest celebrity to rush to aid one in need but she definitely wasn’t the first to jump into a phone booth and save the day! Not too long ago Ryan Gosling helped save a British journalist from a speeding New York cab and not too long ago, Vin Diesel rushed to save a family from their over turned car right before the vehicle burst into flames. James Cameron couldn’t write a more thrilling action sequence.
So, we here at Ology decided to take a walk down memory lane (after looking BOTH ways) and stacked up a list of some of tinsel town’s modern day heroes. Step aside Superman, Hollywood's here to the rescue!
1. Mila Kunis: The Black Swan actress saved a worker’s life when he suffered a seizure at her home. She turned his head to the side and helped him manage through the episode before parametics arrived on he scene.
2. Ryan Gosling: Gosling saved British freelance writer Laurie Penny’s life in April. While crossing a busy New York street Penny happened to look the wrong way for incoming traffic (the brits drive on the right side of the road) and almost got hit by a yellow cab. If it wasn’t for Ryan pulling her out of harms way, who knows what could have happened!
3. T.I. “Tip” Harris: While on his way to a video shoot, Atlanta rapper T.I. took notice to a contemporary urban station reporting of a man threatening to jump off the roof of a building. T.I. called into the station to help but then soon after opted to drive over to the station instead and speak to the ‘jumper’ himself. After a few inspirational words, ‘Joshua’ (pseudonym) stepped back and surrendered himself to medical attention instead.
4. Patrick Dempsey: After Weston Masset totaled his car near Dempsey’s Malibu home, the Grey’s Anatomy actor rushed to the scene and helped pull the teenager from the car. The young boy’s first words to his real life superman was, "Are you famous," to which Dempsey replied, "Yeah, I’m a doctor."
5. Kate Winslet: In 2011, the Oscar-winning actress pulled Richard Branson’s 90-year-old grandmother to safety after his $70 million dollar home went up in flames. The vacation house was struck by lightning and was destroyed by the resulting fire. There were 20 occupants in the home at the time.
6. Zoe Saldana: Earlier this year in January, Saldana rushed to the aid of an elderly woman who had just gotten into a car accident. Zoe, who witnessed the actual accident, immediately called 911 and didn’t leave the woman’s side until paramedics arrived and treated the woman.
7. Vin Diesel: In 2002, Vin Deisel came to the rescue of a family whose car rolled off the road and crashed. Diesel, who had seen the entire crash from the seat of his motorbike, ran to the scene and pulled each of the family members out from the wreckage. Soon after the vehicle exploded and burst into flames. Thanks to Vin, everyone escaped unharmed.
8. Dustin Hoffman: During a casual stroll recently in London’s Hyde Park, Hoffman came across 27-year-old jogger and lawyer Sam Dempstar "staggering and frothing at the mouth" immediately before collapsing. Hoffman ran to the aid of the troubled jogger and immediately called the paramedics. Medical professionals who arrived on the scene said that if Hoffman had not been there to assist Dempstar, and turn him on his back, the situation could have ended much worse.
