Listen Up: Mister Cee Drops Hour Long J Dilla Tribute

Even though Hot 97's Mister Cee is running a bit behind here, having missed Dilla's respective birth and death dates (February 7th; February 10th), one of his classic 60 minute tribute mixes (technically, it's only 59 minutes and 34 seconds, but whatever) is always welcome. For a full hour (nearly), Cee spun a full-on Dilla mix to celebrate the life of hip-hop's greatest producer, such as we've seen him do in the past with similar situations. It's a necessity for any Dilla addict, a proper introduction to new-comers, and, overall, just something that's good to listen to from front to end. Yes, this is the real deal, and, as you can assume, the first sale has already been sold. Don't worry though--Dilla's collection will still continue to go up for purchase in weekly installments. Here's the backstory, as was posted on J-Dilla.com: "Years ago J Dilla moved a large collection of records, personal test presses and audio master tapes into a storage until after his Detroit basement studio flooded. Shortly thereafter he moved to Los Angeles. The storage unit was left by Dilla and taken care of by his mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, but attention and priorities soon shifted: Dilla became seriously ill and hospitalized, and with his mother at his side in Los Angeles during a planned two-week visited that turned into years, the unit was lost. Aside from a legacy, Dilla left behind plenty of unheard sounds, and for the latest posthumous release, his mother Maureen "Ma Dukes" Yancey has worked up the previously announced Rebirth of Detroit LP that features Detroit-based emcees joining up on some choice unreleased Jay Dee beats.

Obviously, from the photo above, the project has already hit the press, and Ma Dukes released a statement alongside a trailer on her goals with the LP:

"This will bring together artists that have drifted away from one another and haven't been able to work with each other lately. It's a healing process for the city. For individuals, it's going to bring back the love and the passion for the music and for what hip-hop has to offer."

Rebirth of Detroit features hip-hop hometown heroes such as Danny Brown, Amp Fiddler, Illa J, Frank Nitt, Chuck Inglish, Phat Kat and Guilty Simpson, and is set to drop on June 12. Here's the official trailer:
