I just finished watching 'It's the End of the World as We Knew It' 1.5 mostly for my favorite scene when Sally tells Aidan about Danny killing her, but I also love the conversations between Aidan and Father Gates the vampire priest who has recently been enlisted to recruit at the hospital for Bishop and turned one of Aidan's patients.
He's probably the most unique and interesting vampire on the show next to Aidan of course, I love the ideas he brings up that suggest vampires to actually be PART OF religion rather than a sin against it. That was amazing writing. Just the thought is something that doesn't seem like it's been done before although I have not watched many vamps myself much like Sam Witwer.
I am not really religious either for that matter but Father Gates does have an interesting point that one who believe in God(and I do some) can't deny that his creating everything meant that he had to have created vampires. Just like he probably also created evolution(so it confuses me how these evolution vs God debates can be).
I can see why Aidan does not buy a word Father Gates says though, he is a vampire priest who preaches that God answered his prayers to be saved from his cancer by turning him into a vampire while Aidan believes that being given that life is not being saved at all(like he said about Cara "it wouldn't be saving her") at all and I can agree with him on that.
I wish they had done more with Father Gates' character though but of course Bishop had to have him staked when Aidan pried out his fangs or so I assume. No more fangs means no more recruiting so he's useless now, bye bye. Plus the smirk on his face when he sent the Father away with his guy.
So yeah didn't mean to get all into a whole vampire religion rant thing, I write too much sometimes oops but I just really liked what the Father's character suggested, it was just really unique and fascinating.
