Above you can see a mock-up from a source at Cult of Mac who, according to the blog, has seen the prototype for Apple's long rumored, but so far undelivered HDTV. And, judging from the report, the thing is going to be pretty baller.
According to Cult of Mac, the TV will include Airplay, the same thing that lets you stream any media wirelessly from your Mac computer, iPod, or iPhone over the TV. It will also have Siri, which means no more worrying about lost remote controls (although there is no word on whether the TV can buy you tomato soup or tell you what rain is). And, last but not least, the TV has FaceTime capabilities, bringing us one step closer to this (or perhaps this).
But maybe the most exciting part is the screen itself. Cult of Mac's spy reports that the TV is essentially a giant Mac monitor, utilizing the same back-lit cinema display as the computer monitor you may be staring at right now, but making it much bigger. According to rumors, Apple is trying to make a 40 inch set and a 60 inch set. However, the least exciting part is probably the price, since this thing will set you back north of $1,000 (for the 40 inch) so you should probably start saving your allowance.
Steve Jobs famously said in 2007 that he had "cracked" TV and it seems like this could be what he was talking about. Miles ahead of Apple TV, this could be the dominant home theater that we've been waiting for. More as this story develops.
