I'm going to resist the temptation to light my notebook on fire and swing it around the room a little bit and instead tell you that the long-gestating Jimi Hendrix biopic starring none other than OutKast's André 3000 is finally set to begin filming.
According to the Irish Film & Television Network (just go with me, it makes sense in a moment), production on the film—titled All Is By My Side—is scheduled to kick off in Ireland in three weeks. No word yet on who else will be starring, but we do know that the film was written by Three Kings screenwriter John Ridley and that the story will focus on the years of Hendrix's life surrounding the writing and recording of his debut album, 1967's Are You Experienced?
André certainly looks the part, and he's obviously no stranger to a live mic or a guitar—but I'm curious to know how much of his own singing and/or guitar playing will make it into the finished film, if any. He's got a pretty big pink headband to fill, that's for sure.
What do you guys think about André 3000 playing Jimi Hendrix? Brilliant casting move or ill-fated disaster? Let us know in the comments section below.

Brandt Hardin :
Everything Rock knows about the guitar after 1970 came from his psychedelic twisting of what the instrument could do. I paid homage to Hendrix with a portrait called Purple Haze on the anniversary of his passing recently. You can see it at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/purple-haze-jimi-hendrix.html and tell me how the voodoo child’s music has influenced you!
