The fast affiliate numbers from last night's network shows are in and if you thought that was the Once Upon A Time season finale YOU GOT FOOL'D! Here's three important things you should know about the digits...
At Ology, we judge shows by two factors: the total number of viewers (in millions) as well as the percentage of viewers in the incredibly crucial 18-49 year old demographic (so 1% of viewers aged 18-49 tuning in is expressed as a 1.0 demo rating). That demo number is almost more important than the overall number of viewers; despite the millions, a show that can nail that youthful core has a better shot at securing a renewal. So if you see us throwing around demo digits all loosely, you know why.
Is GCB the new Desperate Housewives yet? Not quite, and its future is looking bleak for that reason. The 1.8 demo for last night’s season finale holds up with its 1.9 average, which is still far below many of ABC’s new series (Once, Revenge, even Don’t Trust The B), and since it’s not holding onto enough of that 2.7 that Housewives typically brings in, it might be in trouble come Upfront time. Then again, the Sunday at 10pm timeslot isn’t seeing much competition: CBS’ new series NYC 22 is the only other contender, and that only managed a 1.3.
NBC is TERRIBLE on Sundays. How bad? Absolutely awful horribly so bad it hurts. Not a single show in NBC’s Sunday night lineup—which includes Dateline (0.7), Harry’s Law (0.7) and The Celebrity Apprentice (1.9)—scraped a 2 in the demo, and even though Apprentice spent most of April clearing that bar with 2.1s and 2.2s, this week is the show’s fifth time in the 1.0 range. This season average of 2.1 is far below last year’s 2.8, which could mean that Trump’s days are numbered.
So what was the most watched program of the night? In pure millions, CBS’ 60 Minutes scored 11.44 million viewers to tower over the night, though you can obviously see why that only translates to a 1.6 demo (it’s mostly watched by old people). In comparison, ABC’s Once Upon A Time won the night yet again with a 3.0 in the demo with just 8.94 million viewers.
