Save for Anna Wintour, Mia Wasikowska and a few others, nearly everyone on the 2011 Met Gala red carpet donned either an original Lee Alexander McQueen creation - or a gown crafted by his successor, Sarah Burton - to properly honor him after his untimely death. This means most of last year's attendees wore existing gowns instead of custom-made numbers.
This year, both Miuccia Prada and the late Elsa Schiaparelli are this year's guest honorees - however, Prada was clear that she'll be incredibly picky about who she outfits for the Monday night festivities, and despite the fact that I go BA-NAH-NUHS Rachel Zoe-style over custom created gowns, I'm kind of anxious to see who will wear straight-from-the-runway looks, even if they're few and far between.
Not to brag or anything, but I kind of have a knack for predicting red carpet looks (read: 2011 Emmy Awards), so I've collated this incredibly presumptuous (read: using all RTW and a couple couture gowns) preemptive best dressed list with scientific precision (read: my gut, designer confirmations), because now that us regular folk are privy to the discernible red carpet, we can all see how my guesses stack up in real time, and that's all anyone can really ask for.
Beyond the following list, we know Joan Smalls will walk the red carpet as Olivier Rousteing's date, Azealia Banks will hang on the arm of Alexander Wang and Isabel Lucas will split her time between Jack and Lazaro of Proenza Schouler. We also have confirmation that Heidi Klum will wear Escada, Lana Del Rey will wear custom Altuzarra, Derek Lam is taking Katharina Harf and that Anthony Vaccarello will dress model Anja Rubik.
And now for the short list:

Lauren Santo Domingo in Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012

Arizona Muse in Erdem Moralioglu Spring 2012

Co-Chair Carey Mulligan in Vintage Prada

Christina Ricci in Thakoon Spring 2012

Liu Wen in Michael Kors Fall 2012
For the love of god, somebody please show up in Elie Saab spring 2012. Literally, anything from that runway will make me cry tears or sartorial joy.
