Bruce Springsteen has never been one to shy away from a choice cover song, but last night's home turf gig at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey was extra special—two weeks after his death, The Boss paid tribute to Levon Helm by performing a rousing rendition of The Band's Music From Big Pink classic, "The Weight".
While I don't want anyone damaging their eardrums, I can't recommend highly enough that you turn your laptop volume all the way up and then check it out below.
Don't you just love that moment when thousands of people stop clapping and start singing along? To Springsteen's credit, he opts for the stark, stripped-down Nebraska approach on the first verse before slowly but surely bringing in the rest of the (newly expanded) E Street Band lineup. (Huge kudos to Roy Bittan and Charlie Giordano on piano and organ, respectively.) It's a great performance... I dunno, I just wish there was some way to get a hold of whoever filmed it and thank them for a job well done. Maybe an e-mail address? Sigh, oh well.
