Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has circulated a draft of a contempt order for Attorney General Eric Holder, over what Issa characterizes as a "refusal to cooperate" in the Oversight Committee's investigation into the failed Fast and Furious program.
Issa accuses Holder of withholding documents and provided obscure or misleading testimony. The Justice Department responded that Holder has testified seven times and handed over thousands of documents.
Politico has the memo here, if you're a reader. The memo is not the same as an order of contempt, but is the first formal step towards one.
Ordinarily, PoliticOlogy doesn't go in for this "But-but-but—the Republicans did it, too." But-but-but—if Holder gets held in contempt while Alberto "I don't recall" Gonzales got to go home scot free, and on the same week John Yoo was given immunity for his torture memos, I just don't know. Do only Democratic officials get held accountable for their actions in government?
