Gabriel commented on Giancarlo Stanton Monster Homerun Sunday Versus the Cubs:
“Amazing home run. Few players in baseball can hit that ball so hard and far. Can't wait for Stanton to earn freedom from the glorified AAA team Marlins and play for a real MLB club.”
Bad calls are taking over the world. And I can't take it anymore.
If it's up to me I want replay on everything. Or a robot behind home plate instead of a sloppy umpire named Jerry who still has doughnut crumbs in his goatee and a coffee stain on his shirt.
I mean look at this call. Is this not the worst call you've ever seen? What if this were the NLCS? Who am I kidding, we've seen it happen in the playoffs too.
I'm not even saying that Tim Welke, the guy who made the call, is horrible at his job. I understand things happen bang-bang in sports, and that the refereeing profession is ultimately set up for criticism regardless of their performance.
But forget tradition. Portable CD players were f*cking awesome when they came out. They made listening to music easier and crisper. But then they made an iPod. So we adapted and all bought one and guess what: It was more effective and more efficient than a portable CD player.
The argument that replay reviews and technology would slow down the game just infuriates me. A squirrel could have looked at that play, and within seconds determined that the base-runner was safe. And if God forbid it took five minutes? What's 3 hours and 45 minutes compared to 3 hours and 40 minutes in the scheme of things?
Especially in baseball when base-runners are so rare and valuable. Teams go innings at a time before putting someone on. Unfairly taking one away could change the outcome of a game when you consider the frequency of one-run wins.
Imagine this happened on the 27th out of a perfect game? Cough.. Armando Galarraga... cough.
