NBC’s The Biggest Loser sees its lowest ratings ever for a season finale, but we weren’t watching it so we don’t care. CBS totally stole FOX’s crown back with new NCIS episodes, and three OTHER things you need to know about last night in primetime with the fast affiliate ratings!
At Ology, we judge shows by two factors: the total number of viewers (in millions) as well as the percentage of viewers in the incredibly crucial 18-49 year old demographic (so 1% of viewers aged 18-49 tuning in is expressed as a 1.0 demo rating). That demo number is almost more important than the overall number of viewers; despite the millions, a show that can nail that youthful core has a better shot at securing a renewal. So if you see us throwing around demo digits all loosely, you know why.
Does The L.A. Complex stand a chance? It’s official: absolutely not. Even with its Wednesday re-airings (last week’s second-day showing gathered even more viewers that the premiere) and that totally shocking ending, Complex sunk to an even lower low, keeping a 0.3 demo but dipping to just 570,000 viewers, shedding another 70,000 from its pilot. It’s still a pretty safe bet that the network will burn off the series’ remaining four episodes, but the initiative to get The CW into the summer programming game is off to its worst start possible, with the premieres of Breaking Pointe and The Catalina still on the horizon.
Glee is back down again. Which is a shame, because last night was my favorite episode of the season. After going up 12% last week, FOX’s song-and-dance dips 11%, getting just a 2.4 in the demo with 5.95 million viewers. What’s worse, with a new episode of NCIS this time around getting a 3.0 in the demo, Glee stood no chance at winning its timeslot. Maybe the show’s not as safe as we thought.
New Girl goes down hard as well. CBS being back at full power really did FOX in- where Glee shed 0.3 in the demo, New Girl lost an entire half-point, going from last week’s 2.6 to a timid 2.1 and it’s lowest demo ever, with just 4.39 million viewers. ABC’s Last Man Standing and Cougar Town both hit series lows (1.4 and 1.3 respectively), but New Girl sees the largest demo decrease of the entire night.
