It's shaping up to be quite a week for Nicholas Kirkwood - the footwear designer not only opens his first American store on Manhattan's Washington Street on Friday, but he nabbed some cyber space over at The Daily Beast where he talks about everything from his first job with Philip Treacy (selling hats, of course) to his namesake brand's aesthetic direction. And while he's been pretty public about his desire to dress Kate Middleton, he probably took himself out of the running when he took a jab at her style.
“She just wears too much High Street stuff. I know she’s trying to be democratic, but I don’t know how many pairs of LK Bennett you can wear. She does occasionally come out and is wearing McQueen or something like that. It’s like, ‘Do that more! You’re meant to be a princess-y type of person, so act like one!’”
Though I've been pretty outspoken about my hatred of those damn L.K. Bennett shoes and the navy-on-navy-on-navy thing she's been trying out, I kind of understand her desire to be the people's princess. Still, do you think Kirkwood has a point? Should the Duchess of Cambridge start acting more like the Princess she is?
