Myranda is a high school junior who found out she was pregnant after missing birth control, and her boyfriend Eric didn’t bother to use a condom. Rather than finishing her last year of high school, Myranda plans to get her GED, and Eric wants to take college courses at a community college. They live with Eric’s grandmother, but she isn’t willing to let them continue staying with her after the baby is born. As basically their only option, Myranda and Eric plan to live in an old house on the edge of his grandmother’s property… and they have a lot of work to do before the baby is born.
Even though Myranda’s mother has been in rehab and somewhat absent from her life, she does attend her daughter’s baby shower. She even tells Myranda that she wants to be around when her granddaughter is born so she can be a part of her life. However, her mother hasn't been the most trustworthy person in the past.
Since there can only be two people in the labor room when she gives birth, Myranda would rather have Eric and her friend beside her instead of her mother. Sadly, she doesn’t think that her mother is reliable enough to be there when she gives birth. Apparently she was right – they brought baby Kaylee home from the hospital and Myranda’s mother was nowhere to be found.
Finally, since her mother has been staying sober, Myranda lets her come visit and see her granddaughter, but she still doesn’t trust her mother to babysit Kaylee alone. When she and Eric do eventually leave their daughter with Myranda’s mother so they can have a night out, she doesn’t answer her phone and Myranda’s mind runs wild. However, Kaylee and her mother were safe and sound at home, and she even urges her daughter to ask for help in the future if she needs it.

I have a serious problem with anyone (especially a girl) who doesn’t know what supplies they need before a baby is born. Pregnant or not, EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT.
