The show must go on! Sorry, Gladys Knight but Dancing with the Stars is still kicking and Monday night’s episode was all about the classical performances. During the show contestants danced twice: Once individually with their professional partners and once as a team. The stars were broken up into two teams and competed against one another for the first time this season.
As Melissa Gilbert takes the lowest score with a 21, Jaleel White is close behind with a 24. As for first based on the individual competitions? Maria Menounos and Derek Hough take the lead with the first 30 of the season! Very, very well deserved.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas
“You can’t go classical without ass!” – Mark
Mark and Katherine kept it elegant while dancing to “Canon in D”. She kept it graceful and had fantastic foot movement. Len loved it but Bruno would have enjoyed it to be a bit raunchier so that his ‘juices’ could start to flow. Carrie Ann thought it could have had more passion and she’s right. Not to mention the Game of Thrones type costumes just seemed weird to wear with the music.
Score: 27
Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy
“You’d both be in the room during rehearsal? Wow!” – Melissa
Since last week’s performance Maks’ ankle has gotten worse. He went to the doctor’s during rehearsal and was told he has a cyst. Unfortunately (or not so unfortunately for Melissa), that meant that brother Val would be in rehearsals with them all week in case he needs to step in to take his place. Melissa didn’t seem to mind that. As for the scoring, the judges weren’t too thrilled but compared to Katherine’s it was so entertaining, fast and had so many difficult lifts. Guess perfect technique wins out again.
Score: 21
William Levy and Cheryl Burke
Despite a hurt ankle, William does amazing on tonight’s show. And not just because he looks extremely handsome in a tux, mind you. He’s sweating after the performance but don’t think we didn’t catch those tears while Bruno was giving you his positive feedback!
Score: 27
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower
Val appearance take two! Roshon admits that the past few weeks haven’t been going his way and he’s just desperately hoping that he gets out of this rut. To look more masculine during his tango, he enlists Val’s help during rehearsals.
Um, did anyone else see that awkward DWTS sign cutting into his performance for a hot second? May hurt him when voting comes in to play. As for the judges, no one seemed to notice but Carrie Ann definitely enjoyed the number. Roshon even landed himself a hug from her.
Score: 25
Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd
Donald has been so good throughout the season that all he needs to do now is to stay away from the 7s and 8s. He’s accomplished that but it is getting to the point where he’s so close to those 10s that it becomes frustrating when the scores fall flat. Nevertheless, his performance was great as usual.
Score: 27
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough
“Be a female…I mean attractive. That’s what I mean.” – Derek
“Katherine has been in the lead for the girls but she better watch out because you’re coming after her!” – Carrie Ann
“That didn’t suck!” – Carrie Ann
When vampires meet the dance floor. Maria may have cried a bit in rehearsal because of all the pressure but wow, she nailed it tonight! The entire performance was amazing. The storytelling and the tension build up deserved a 10 from even Len!
Score: 30
First 10 of the season! Len did it right and there’s an instant repeat on the DVR to check out this number again.
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson
“I may not have any Super Bowl rings or be a Latin lover but this week I’m the one to beat.” – Jaleel
Len says that there was no footwork involved and the other two judges seemed to agree. Carrie Ann believes that he’s definitely in the game still but sometimes his hands aren’t tight enough while dancing. He seemed to get too much negative feedback because as a viewer their storytelling really was great. It was almost as if you forgot who they were while dancing.
Score: 24
Duel Time: Team Katherine Vs. Team William (Based on past scores) Both teams dance it out during the last segment trying to help their entire team before the voting begins. The results will be added to everyone's individual scores.
Team 1: Katherine, Mark, Maria, Derek, Jaleel, Kym, Roshon, Chelsie
(Len says Maria and Roshon stood out but the technique wasn't great. Once again, Carrie Ann agrees with us. The dance was fantastic and yes Len, even Jaleel stood out.) Score: 27
Team 2: William, Cheryl, Melissa, Maks, Donald, Peta
(The guys were shirtless, the music was blaring and the entire performance was better than any other dance of the evening. As Carrie Ann said, just so much fun!) Score: 26
Winner: Team 1 --> The judges just don't make sense. Clearly they enjoyed Team 2 better. Even the audience started to boo.
Theory: It's getting down to the wire. Numerous people could head home but that doesn't necessarily mean there's an obvious choice. The kick off may be a surprise no matter what.
Who Will Get Kicked Off: Melissa Gilbert
SumOlogy: Maria and Derek nailed it while certain competitors continue to overcome injury.
Grade: A
