I want to take a minute or two today to wish a very, very, very happy birthday to one of my all-time favorite musicians, songwriters, artists, and all around fucking cool human beings on the planet—Miss Amanda Palmer. As most of you already know, Amanda is the (sometimes) piano-playing half of The Dresden Dolls, the (arguably, I suppose) cuter half of writer Neil Gaiman, and the reason your cool friends shaved their eyebrows, stopped shaving their armpits, and bought ukuleles last year.
Amanda has just finished recording and mixing her second studio album in Australia with new group The Grand Theft Orchestra and is asking for our help to get the record packaged, promoted, and properly released without the help/interference of a major label. Want to chip in? Even a dollar can help get Amanda's new record into ears and hearts everywhere— visit the album on Kickstarterto learn more and/or make a pledge.
In the meantime, though, I'll be celebrating 36 years of Amanda Fucking Palmer by revisiting (cue fan outrage) her 15 greatest songs of all time... to date, anyway. Did I leave off any of your favorites? (Don't stab me in effigy—it's hard to pick just 15!) Be sure to let us know in the comments section below—share your favorite Amanda Palmer songs, why they're so important/meaningful to you, and whether you'll be helping Amanda fund her new album/book/gallery tour project on Kickstarter.
Without further ado... and in no particular order...
"Truce"
"Bank Of Boston Beauty Queen"
"Good Day"
"Astronaut"
"First Orgasm"
"The Ukulele Anthem"
"Oasis"
"Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner"
"Mrs. O"
"Ampersand"
"Shores Of California"
"Have To Drive"
"Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn?"
"Map Of Tasmania"
And, of course...
"Coin-Operated Boy"
Happy birthday, Amanda!

Jeremy Popkin:
I was confused as to why Amanda Palmer would need to Kickstarter anything, but I'm glad to hear she's just doing it as a "screw you" to major labels.
$1 for her new album? Sold!
