It's been one year since two billion people woke up bright and early to witness Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. One million lined the London street's as the beautiful couple became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and needless to say, immediate celebrities. The funny hats came a blazing, William joked that he thought it would be a small affair, Pippa's assets were introduced to the world and that one cousin couldn't help but look miserable on the balcony before the memorable kiss between the new husband and wife.
It seems like just yesterday that William and Kate wed, but over the past year many big moments have happened for the pair. From becoming dolls to celebrating a big birthday, here's to some of the biggest events they've endured.
1. Kate and William, at a store near you.
In February 2012 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge became immortalized into Barbie dolls. Long were the wedding silverware and Christmas ornaments. The Mattel duo were made up in their wedding clothes and retailed at $100.
2. The juicy pictures finally surfaced.
Pippa and Prince Harry made such an impression at the ceremony with their supposed flirting on the balcony that photographer and videographer Alison Jackson decided to capture fake montages of them. Some actor look-a-likes posed for some unforgettable moments that the public only wished actually happened. No worries, though. A few months prior in May 2011 pictures of Pippa partying with her friends in a bra made there way into headline news.
3. Kate began her volunteering duties.
As the Duchess of Cambridge began her volunteering and charity work immediately after the wedding. In January 2012 she specifically was noticed for her help with the U.K. Scouts. Her work was kept under the radar but she was featured on its February/March issue.
4. The beauty turned the big 3-0.
In the same month, Kate turned 30 looking simply stunning. She and Prince William celebrated the moment quietly but did step out the night before to attend the London premiere of Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. At the event she showed her usual beautiful style wearing a long black-laced dress. Not even the rain and umbrella shown in the photographs could ruin the moment.
5. New residence news and Harry moves in.
It was announced in November 2011 that Prince William and Kate would be moving into their new residence at Nottingham Cottage in 2013. The two will settle into the complex in Kensington Palace once structural repairs are taken care of. As for Harry, it was confirmed in March 2012 that he moved in with the couple. It’s always been said that Harry's quite close to his new sister-in-law.
6. William heads out leaving Kate behind.
After just being married for a short time, William and Kate experienced their first time away from another in February when the Prince was deployed for some time to the Falkland Islands for about seven weeks. Once home he took part in his Royal Air Force pilot duties but luckily that was done near their home in Wales.
7. Baby talk. Baby talk. Baby talk.
Kate just couldn’t stay away from the baby pressure this year. With so much speculation, certain peanut allergy gossip and baby bump talk over the past few months, you couldn’t help but feel bad for her. Unfortunately, the fact that the two have been married for a year now and still no announcement will just increase the chatter. According to the Royal guidebook (that’s what we’ll call it), Kate should have been pregnant by nine months.
8. Puppy love!
In March, William and Kate adopted an adorable cocker spaniel named Lupo! For just a small fracture of a moment any talk about babies was put on the back burner.
9. First Barbie dolls, now wax figures.
In April 2011, William and Kate’s wax figures were revealed at Madame Tussauds in London. They wore the outfits that they had on during their engagement news special.
10. Pippa under fire.
In the most recent scandal for the Royal family, Pippa Middleton made headline news when her friend Arthur de Soultrait waved a gun at photographers while driving around in April.
