Hot on the heels of Friday's news that that J. Alexander, Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker were fired from America's Next Top Model, newcomer Kelly Cutrone spoke to Fashionista about the new "format" for the 19th season of the show. It seems rumors of BryanBoy joining the cast were completely fabricated (thank GOD) - he told Fashionista that he is definitely not in talks with the shows producers. Kelly Cutrone went on to say, "I don’t know who’s replacing everyone and I know some of the people who will be joining the show and of course I can’t say.” Not even a clue?! Well, frustrations aside, Kelly also said that she doesn't think the show wants to "replace" people but rather look at a new format.
This new format, she says, is due to the way people currently watch the show. "People are watching the show on the internet; they’re participating on Twitter, on Tivo, [where] if somebody doesn’t watch it within the first three days, it doesn’t count and that doesn’t really work when you’re trying to engage an audience.”
I personally think 19 seasons of ANTM is about 20 too many - people aren't just bored with Tyra's self-centered dramatics, but it doesn't seem like the emotional turmoil the show puts them through is even worth it for the model wannabes - most of the girls either end up as in Chili's commercials (i.e. Mercedes) or extras in small budget movies (i.e. Yaya). Will a new "format" make you watch the show again or have you found other reality TV shows (read: the Real Housewives of New Jersey) to be more entertaining?
