Nobody cares about a 25th birthday party. You're four years removed from the best birthday of your life and nobody wants to celebrate moving one step closer to 30. So it’s hardly a surprise that Fox’s big 25th anniversary special yesterday was a sparsely attended affair, even with such high profile appearances by the long lost Wayans brothers and the doughy husk of a human being that Joe Millionaire has become.
Reruns of the The Simpsons and Married... With Children pilots garnered little in the way of late-‘80s nostalgia, earning a respective 1.5 and 1.3 adults 18-49 rating. The special itself only pulled in a 1.8 rating, well behind Once Upon a Time and Amazing Race. We can only assume Ryan Seacrest had to console a crying network president in the bathroom afterward, telling everyone he just needed a minute.
So, did anybody actually watch the special? Who else showed up to feign interest? Did the cast of Arrested Development show up to look with their new boyfriend, Netflix? I hope they at least didn't look too smug about it.
