By my count, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were the only act to make much of an on-stage impression at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In what I can only assume is their not-so-subtle way of paying tribute to the rich rock n' roll tradition of which they are now officially a part, the band has announced the release of a new online-only EP of cover songs called We Salute You.
Out May 1, the EP will feature six cover songs (three studio cuts and three live performances), five of which have never been available digitally.
Track listing:
"A Teenager In Love" (Dion and the Belmonts)
"Havana Affair" (The Ramones)
"Search & Destroy" (Iggy and the Stooges)
"Everybody Know This Is Nowhere" (Neil Young)
"I Get Around" (The Beach Boys)
"Suffragette City" (David Bowie)
(via Consequence of Sound)
I'll admit I haven't heard most of these, but the Chili Peppers have yet to record a disappointing cover as far as I'm concerned. Needless to say, I'm excited to download the shit out of this… and you should be, too.
